Dividing the bulbs. Decided to discard the tetraploid day lillies I never liked. But then I realized they were looking old and sad when we moved into this house 35 YEARS ago, and since then I have never divided, fertilized, watered or otherwise cared for them. Yet there's a few blooms every year.

As I dig them up, I realize there are a lot more rhizomes than I imagined. And they're growing in an inch or two of crappy clay soil over the concrete an old wrought Iron fence had been set in.

@AlphaCentauri so.... guilt set in & you're going to keep them, put them in a better spot & see how they do?

Yeah, who knows?

But it's been a bitch dividing them. Should have been done decades ago. They're a tangled, matted, root-bound mess, with some English ivy and Norway maple roots thrown in for fun.
