@loboholic - yeah.... vi is as much religion as it is editor.
@loboholic - I'm still a nano fan, if I have to edit from the CLI
@0x56 I can honestly say I use them all. I cut my teeth with vi a million years ago and sometimes it's just habit to start with it before fucking shit up and having to :q! out of it only to use nano or pico or something better.
@0x56 @loboholic Oh my. I haven't thought about vi in years. I have to take back some of the bad things I've said about therapists over the years. They managed to let me get past that nightmare for a while.
And I agree...that editor debate is as robust and aged as the Chevy/Ford/Mopar crowd.
@Urbankidx4 @0x56 Sounds like some deep vi trauma in your past. My condolences.
@loboholic @0x56 it was a several month panic period where is was learning both the nuance of a different Unix derivative and a new editor. Neither of which were part of my normal duties but were somehow necessary to get my job done. So my issue was mostly stress induced. Admittedly my opinion of vi is tainted. So beyond the general 😱 of needing learn it I am not a valid reference for the good/bad scale.
@loboholic @0x56 I can confirm that the emacs camp once made sure every vi partisan shed some blood in our intraoffice front in that war.
I still have the scar from the tacks embeded in my seat from that fateful day.
@0x56 The vi vs. emacs debate is decades old and I'm sure actual blood has been shed over it.
